Camber village voice

On Friday there was a very special occasion at the church when a local couple , Janice King and Geoffrey Johnson were married.

The sound of bagpipes was heard around the village as Corporal Tripney from the 5 Scots, piped throughought the proceedings , beginning with tunes to the guests outside the church then piping the bride as she arrived in a 1930s style vintage beauford open topped tourer all of the way to the altar with Amazing Grace, Canon David Frost from St Mary the Virgin in Rye conducted the ceremony. There were no Hymns sung but 4 songs were played which were very suited to the occasion as well as being special to the bride and groom, the songs were as follows , I dont believe in Miracles by Hot Chocolate , Up were we belong by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes , The Power of Love By Jennifer Rush and to close White Wedding by Billy Idol.

After the ceremony the newly wed couple took a tour of the village in the Beauford before joining their guests at the reception that was held at the Green Owl.The wedding guests were accompanied to the reception by the Corporal playing his bag pipes. We wish them Every Happiness for the future.

This weekend is Harvest Festival weekend at Camber church . The service is on Sunday at 10.30 am as usual. If you want to make a contribution, take your gift to the church on Saturday morning 29th September where a team of people will be using them to decorate the inside. . Remember the Harvest Supper on Monday 1st October at 6.0pm in the Thomas Longley hall behind the church. (accessible via the carpark) It costs £3 per adult and half price for children under the age of 12, payable on entry.

Its a hot sit down meal all home cooked, including Shepherds Pie, apple pie which is irresistible, theres a vegetarian option also available, If you require any other drink besides the cider you are welcome to bring your own. After the meal there is the usual auction of the produce donated, which usually is rather riotous. All of the proceeds go to Farm Africa.

Members of Camber Country are getting excited as it is getting near to the time when they go on their annual holiday , they leave on 8th october returning on the 12th they have a full coach and this year it is Cornwall , so we hope that this current wet weather subsides before then, and they have lovely weather , but in any case whatever the weather there is always something nice to do in Cornwall.

I would also like to advise you that there will be no clubs at the hall on 15th november as the hall is booked for the election on policing matters.

Terry has also pointed out to me that the Nifty Fifty is only £1 per session and only £2 if you take part in the lottery and . this is optional. Also the Film Club is on the 2nd friday of each month not the 3rd as stated in last weeks Voice.

, In light of the terrible events that have taken place over the last week elsewhere in the country most of us will agree that this is a very good time to remind ourselves how thankful we are for our local police and for for the stirling job that they do in our own and wider community, we commend them most highly.

Dan our Community Police Support Officer is available as always to hear about your concerns. He is available on 07796195639 if he isnt available please leave a message, he will get back to you. If you prefer you can email him at [email protected]
