Campaign to help make a big difference

A major West Sussex campaign has been launched to encourage people to make some small changes in their lifestyle that will make a big difference to the environment.

The driving force behind West Sussex County Council's '10 Per Cent Challenge' is Louise Goldsmith, Cabinet Member for the Environment and the Economy.

Residents, businesses, and organisations are being urged to sign up for the challenge, and they will know straight away the kind of impact their pledge will have for the good of the planet.

Thanks to an interactive website, their pledge will be converted into an instant calculation of the benefits for generations to come of their actions.

During the campaign, the website at www.10percentchallenge.org.uk will also feature a map showing which areas of West Sussex are leading the way.

The campaign stresses that helping to make a difference is not at all hard.

A pledge as simple as switching off the television instead of leaving it on stand-by would, amazingly, save 30kg of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the air every year '“ the same as that absorbed by 10 trees.
