Campaigners out in force at fair to fight housing plans at Rose Green

Residents turned out to raise funds for their fight against more housing on a Rose Green estate.

A constant stream of visitors to the first spring fair held by the Willowhale Residents' Association ensured its coffers were boosted by just more than 700.

Among those who went along to the Willowhale Community Centre was Bognor Regis and Littlehampton MP Nick Gibb.

He said he backed the residents in their fight against more housing being built on the estate.

"This is a campaign I am strongly supporting as I believe such plans could irretrievably damage the environment of the area and break the fabric of the estate that makes it such a pleasant place in which to live," he stated.

The association was formed after those who live on the estate were faced with redevelopment plans by the Places for People housing association.

PfP wants to create 26 extra homes on the area around Pryors Lane for sale, part-ownership and rent.

But this would involve knocking down garages and put the allotments at risk. The existing large areas of green space would be reduced by the creation of parking spaces to replace the garages.

The spring fair followed a successful Christmas fair at which more than 1,000 was raised for the association.
