Can this really be springtime in Sussex?

Following a glorious spring Sunday when brown hares, deer and rich clumps of violets were basking in the sunshine on the Downs and their environs, Monday was a stark, wintry contrast.

Residents in Downland areas woke to fin three inches of snow covering nearby hills, and daffodils, pansies and other flowers which had burst into life in their gardens were buried under a temporary white cloak.
