A debate on veganism and its impact on the planet will be held at the University of Sussex next week.

The event is the second in a series of debates under the Exchange project, set to encourage free expression, lively debate and the exchange of thoughts and ideas.

Panellists are set to will explore and question the idea ‘Can veganism save the planet?’.

A University of Sussex spokesperson said: “Our panel will be debating who’s responsible for combating climate change? Is a plant-based diet really the answer to saving the world? Or can the environmental impact of industrial farming outweigh the benefits? Can we still consume meat and dairy products in a sustainable way? What should governments and businesses do to promote sustainable living? When should environmental concerns limit individual choice?”

The panel will include: Leo Hickman, director and editor of Carbonbrief; Isabella Tree, award-winning author and travel writer; Nesta McGregor, BBC1 Newsbeat presenter; Louise Davies, head of policy and campaigning at the Vegan Society; Sebastian Kaye, member of Climate Action Movement Sussex; and one final panellist to be confirmed.

The event will take place on Thursday, February 21, between 6pm and 7.30pm at the Attenborough Centre, University of Sussex.
