Car fire blocks M23 near Gatwick

A car fire on the M23 caused delays as two lanes were blocked near Gatwick (Saturday, April 16).

There was queuing traffic southbound between junction 10, the A2011 for Crawley and junction 10a for the B2036, according to BBC Travel.

Two West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crews from Crawley and one from Horley were called to the fire in the car’s engine compartment at around 2.15pm.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “We were in attendance at the M23.

“The car that caught fire was on the hard shoulder, but everyone got out safely.

“Officers made the scene safe”
