A CAR mounted a bank, overturned and landed on its roof on Bexhill Road, on Sunday.

The accident happened just before 11am near Glyne Gap roundabout, blocking the road for about 70 minutes until the car was removed.

Police and an ambulance were called at 10.55am, but no one was injured and the driver and passengers managed to get themselves out of the car.

Eye witness, Norman Stewart, of Bexhill Road, said: "I was sitting upstairs in my front bedroom when I heard a loud noise.

"When I looked out the window I could see a car over on its roof and emergency vehicles appeared quite quickly.

"There appeared to be no casualties, just shock.

"The driver said his brakes had locked on him and the car just flipped over. This stretch of road is forever having accidents, and I have seen several over the years while I have been living here.

"The road was blocked for about 70 minutes and traffic was diverted along Bexleigh Avenue."

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "One of our patient transport vehicles happened to be driving behind the car and our staff were able to administer basic first aid to the occupants while they waited for help to arrive.

"We sent a rapid response unit, a paramedic car and an ambulance but the driver and passengers had managed to get themselves out of the car.

"No one was seriously injured and no one was taken to hospital."
