Car park loo ‘best’ in the country

At the Loo of the Year Awards, held earlier this month, Churchill Parade’s public loo won the award for best car park toilet in the country.

The overall quality of Rustington’s public toilets, with one platinum-rated and three gold-rated loos, put it 20th in the ‘Local Authority Public Toilet Premier League’ (joint with the City of Lincoln).

Running since 1987, the awards, presented at a ceremony in Solihull, seek ‘to encourage the highest possible standards in all away-from-home or public toilets’.

Inspectors judged toilets on a variety of criteria, from basic cleanliness to the quality of décor and maintenance.

Alison Cooper, chairman of Rustington Parish Council said: “We are extremely proud to have won. We are a newcomer and straight into the top 20.

“We have four public toilets and it is a big decision to keep them. Churchill Parade is the busiest one and obviously, with Store Property, who also contribute, we’re all delighted.”
