Carers invited to free dementia workshop in Arundel

FAMILY and friends who look after someone with dementia or short-term memory loss are being offered a free awareness workshop next week.

Carers Support West Sussex is running the workshop on Thursday (May 23), from 1.30-4pm, at Arundel Baptist Church, Torton Hill Road.

The event will provide information about different types of dementia, memory loss, understanding changes in behaviour, improving communication and perception issues. Carers will also have a chance to meet each other to discuss issues in their caring role.

Staff from Carers Support will be on hand to talk about ongoing support and available services.

The charity has also launched a new Dementia Carer Well-being programme, which supports unpaid family carers, from all walks of life, looking after someone with a dementia or short-term memory loss.

The key aims of the programme are supporting families to understand dementia, help with planning for the future, one-to-one support, including help to understand changes in behaviour, and regular peer support groups.

Funds for respite care are also available to help with much-needed breaks and other well-being activities, for example, regular visits to the gym or other leisure pursuits.
