Cash boost willenable projectto help elderly

The project helps combat rural isolation and grant will help running costs to keep the valuable resource in the village.

The Chief executive of Sussex Community Foundation Kevin Richardson visited the

Project last week with the High Sheriff of East Sussex Graham Peters and his wife Sarah. During the last two years of the project The Sussex Community Foundation has regularly given funding to help this vital community project to the value of £5,600.

“We are delighted to have received this grant”, said Sheila Thomas project Co-ordinator,

“It means we can continue to support older, isolated and lonely people in the area, and we are really grateful for the continued support of Sussex Community Foundation and its donors. “

In the first year the project saw its membership grow from 24 to 39 regular members and 16 volunteers attending on a rota basis. Membership is predicted to rise again next year.

The members come from the local villages in Pett and surrounding areas:

The centre meets every Tuesday at the Pett Village Hall between 10am and 2pm.

Members enjoy a lovely home cooked lunch, and social activities, information and access to weekly produce stalls, manicure, toe nail cutting, massage, hearing aid servicing, regular exercise, including curling, quizzes and musical entertainment.
