Carols for Christmas: Do come to the Village Hall tomorrow, Saturday 20th December between 6.30pm and 8.30pm for an enjoyable evening of Christmas Carol singing, mince pies and hot punch. Come and go as you please, everyone is welcome and there will be a retiring collection for St Michael’s Hospice.

Christmas Church Services: This Sunday, the Fourth Sunday in Advent, the parish communion service will be at the usual time of 9.15am at the church of St Laurence. The service of Nine Lessons and Carols will be held at St George’s Church, Crowhurst at 6pm. On Christmas Eve there will be a Crib Service at 3pm at St Laurence’s church. The Christingle service at 4.30pm and the Midnight Mass at 11.30pm will both be held at St George’s, Crowhurst. The Christmas Day Family Communion service will be at 10am at St Laurence’s church Catsfield.

Sports News: Our football match scheduled for home last weekend was switched to Hampden Park. Our pitch was waterlogged and a check on the drains saw them running freely after over an inch of rain in one day. Sadly, we lost again 1 - 7 to Eastbourne Rangers who are now top of the table. Secretary Colin White scored our only goal. Tomorrow we play Pebsham Sibex away at Buxton Drive, Bexhill. The entire squad, managers, physios, boot boys, pavilion cleaners, wags and turnstile operatives wish all our supporters a happy Christmas and Sporting New Year.

Radio 4 Morning Service 28th December: Some of you who heard the anthem sung to the West Gallery tune ‘Otford’, which was found in the old choir manuscripts of St Laurence’s, at the Family Service earlier in the month, may be interested to know that more of this style of music can be heard on the Morning Service at 8.10am on Sunday 28th December on Radio 4. An ad hoc quire of members of the West Gallery Music Association from all over the South gathered, a few weeks ago, at Wesley’s Chapel in the City to record this service for the BBC. Mike & Rosemary Cooper were part of this group of singers and musicians and hope that it will sound a smooth piece of broadcasting, in reality there were lots of starts and re-records, one piece even having to be sung again because the squealing brakes of a London bus had been picked up on the microphones. It was an interesting and very enjoyable day, which might bring this vigorous and lively church music to a wider audience.

The Mobile Library: The Mobile Library will be off the road between 22nd December and January 4th for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Village Voice: he next edition of the Battle Observer will be on Friday 26th December (Boxing Day) and as there won’t be time to gather any further news for you before the deadline (which was yesterday) regretfully your column will be missing for a week. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all the Catsfield Village Voice readers a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year and thank you for reading this column. Special thanks to Ann Davey and Mike Cooper for their contributions of sport and entertainment news throughout the year.
