Catsfield

Remembrance Sunday: The annual Service of Remembrance for the dead of two World Wars will be held on Sunday at the parish church of St Laurence at 9.15am when the names of Catsfield servicemen who were killed in action in two World Wars will be read out, the last post played and the silence kept. This occasion is especially poignant in this year of the hundredth anniversary of the start of WWl.

Catsfield School: Don’t forget the invitation from the children of Catsfield School to all village residents to join them at St Laurence’s Church at 10.45am on Tuesday 11th November for a very special Service of Remembrance.

Sponsored Swim: Rebecca swam in one of two teams of four on Sunday morning at Battle Abbey Pool in Bexhill and they each completed the recognised swimming distance across the English Channel. (21 miles, which equates to 1344 lengths of a 25m swimming pool.) It took them just over 5 hours and they swam in pairs for about an hour at a time, rested, refuelled and went in again! Rebecca is fourteen and the age range of the swimmers was from eight to sixteen. Swimming is her passion and she trains five or six times a week. They were raising money for a local charity-’Charity for Kids’ (www.charityforkids.co.uk) which raises money for sick, disabled and terminally ill children in the Hastings and Rother area. It’s still not too late to sponsor Rebecca if you haven’t already done so, just call in to the Village Stores. Rebecca would like to say thank you to every one who sponsored her for this worthy cause - or she would if she wasn’t so exhausted!!!

Football News: Our footballers travelled to Portslade who are currently top of Division 1 of the Mid Sussex League, to play them in the second round of the Sussex Junior Cup. Playing with a depleted team, we put up a good fight but unfortunately lost 1 - 2. We are in division 2 of the East Sussex League and fairly low down the table, but the difference between the two teams wasn’t too apparent. Pete Rollison got our only goal. Tomorrow, we are away again playing Wittersham in a league match, so we hope we have our best team and can build on the good performance in the cup.
