Craft Fair: The Craft Fair held in the Village Hall last Saturday was very successful, well attended and everyone seemed to have a really happy time. As well as established makers, we also had a couple of stall holders who were new to craft fairs and who look forward to repeating the experience. The cakes and speciality teas and lunches were well appreciated by all. Due to the generosity of everyone attending and a well supported raffle we are able to send £200 to the charities, Cancer Research and Alzheimer’s. We would like to thank everyone who supported the event. Thanks to Janet for that report.

Catsfield WI: The next meeting of the WI is on Thursday 6th November at the earlier winter time of 2pm. This will be the Annual Meeting in which voting will be held for the election of the President and Committee members and will be followed by the usual delicious tea!

Christmas Market: Plans are underway for the St Laurence Church Christmas Market on Saturday 29th November. This is always a good place to search out Christmas gifts on the attractive and heavily laden stalls, which fill the Village Hall and welcome refreshments will be served. Any contributions of raffle, tombola prizes or items to sell on the stalls will be gratefully received.

CADS: Tickets to the ‘Show of the Year’, the Catsfield Amateur Dramatic Society’s latest pantomime entitled ‘Sinbad and the Big Eruption’, go on sale tomorrow, Saturday 1st November from Catsfield Village Stores for performances on 4th, 5th and 6th December in the Village Hall. Book early to be sure of a seat!

Sports News: The visit to Crowhurst by the footballers saw the first win of the season with Tony Luke scoring one goal and Colin White shooting a penalty in our 2 - 1 win, our points have now trebled to 4. Crowhurst were very welcoming with cups of tea for the supporters and had even produced a programme, a first for us. They have numerous sponsors, so a programme is good advertising for them. Apparently we played very well with Nigel Champion making one of his occasional appearances as goalkeeper, being one of our best players. Tomorrow we travel to Portslade for the next round of the Sussex Junior Cup, surely the furthest away trip we will make this season.

John Bremer: The funeral of John Bremer was a fitting tribute to him and his late wife Peggy, when lots of villagers turned out to pay their respects to them and their family. They ran the White Hart for twenty-seven years as a traditional village pub, where you could always turn up to meet your friends, pick the football or cricket teams, call in after stoolball matches, exchange news and generally feel you were at the heart of village life. It was lovely to see so many of the old friends, who sadly can no longer live in the village, but have such happy memories of growing up with the Bremer children. Happily, the Bremer family still take part in village life, Vanessa in particular being Chairman of the Horticultural Society and mastermind of the CADS. She gave a moving and humorous resume of their Dad’s life and a heartfelt poem was read by one of his granddaughters.

Mobile Library: The East Sussex County Council’s Mobile Library will be making its fortnightly visit to Catsfield and will be parked in the usual place outside the Village Hall on Wednesday 5th November from 3.45pm – 4.45pm.
