Last week’s Christian Aid Coffee Morning was held on a beautiful warm spring day that brought plenty of people flocking to the Village Hall to buy plants and cakes and enjoy a chat with friends. Libby would like to thank everyone for coming to buy and to all the willing helpers for their hard work. A total of £513 was raised and the donations in the Christian Aid envelopes have yet to be counted.

This Saturday, 24th May at 7.30pm in the Village Hall, the latest Murder Mystery performance by the CADS entitled ‘Who Killed the Pop Star’ will take place in aid of the Scouts. A guest appearance by Father Michael (did I hear Vanessa mention a coloured wig?) is helping to sell tickets fast, so there’s not much time left to get yours from the Village Stores priced £5 each. Bring your own food and there will be a bar available.

The Catsfield History Group is working hard to produce their week long exhibition to commemorate the Great War, starting on Thursday 5th June until Wednesday 11th June. This will be held in St Laurence Church, Catsfield from 10.30am – 3pm and will be well worth a visit.

A very fine weekend but only one game of cricket and this was the Under 12 Sussex Girls team playing Essex on Saturday. Why was our own match against Hastings Wanderers on Sunday cancelled? Unfortunately, the opposition couldn’t raise a full team, which is a worrying trend these days for village cricket. Several other friendly matches have already been cancelled for the same reason, but we trust our match against Parkhurst away on Sunday will be able to be played. Sadly, David Taylor has had to abandon his hard ball cricket team for youngsters because of lack of support, but he will be running a soft ball team on Wednesday evenings 5 to 7pm. We invite all interested children to come along for fun and exercise.

Turning back to the Sussex game, we were delighted to be chosen to host this game and what a delight it was. Mike Davey had spent hours on the Playing Field re-mowing the pitch, measuring out the reduced pitch and boundary size, aided by Captain Keith Cook filling up the rabbit holes. The field looked wonderful, the pavilion is still a matter of great pride to all those involved in the project and the teams were extremely complimentary about the facilities. The girls were athletic, competitive and sporting with excellent skills. Mountains of food were provided by dedicated parents, most of whom had come from West Sussex to support their girls and although Sussex lost, it was a wonderful experience all round.

We hope you have noticed that the outside of the pavilion has been washed down, due to Mike standing in a loader bucket with a long broom and he has also put right the clock. So, all we need is for the good weather to last and summer sports can continue. Please do not let your dogs run over the cricket square, it is roped off for a reason.

From last week’s news, the second football team finished the season with a 3 - 0 win at home making them top of the table. Next year they will be re-forming under another name, so we will be back to just one village team.

On Saturday 14th June the next fund raiser for the church will be a Car Boot Sale held on the Catsfield Playing Field, so now’s time to sort out your unwanted items and turn them into cash!
