Catsfield

The act of remembrance for those killed in the two World Wars will take place in the parish church of St Laurence at 9.15am this Sunday, the 10th November during the Holy Communion service.

Sadly it has been announced that the 55 Lunch Club, which was started following an idea by Patricia Speedy twenty years ago, is being forced to close due to lack of support. Libby has cooked thousands of delicious lunches throughout those years, which have been cheerfully served and washed up by teams of volunteers and very many thanks go to them all. The Christmas lunch will be the final meal served on Friday 13th December and everyone is welcome to attend to help make it a jolly occasion. The cost will be £5 for dinner and dessert, followed by tea or coffee and there will be a Christmas raffle. If you would like to join in, please book your place by telephoning Libby on 892360 as soon as possible. Lunches will continue to be served as usual every Friday until then.

A reminder of the other two big pre-Christmas events to be held in the Village Hall. First the St Laurence Church Christmas Market on Saturday 30th November from 10am – 2pm and all donations of items for the stalls will be gratefully received. Call Jane with any queries (893431) and please come along on the day to help raise money to support the church.

The second event takes place that same week on 5th, 6th and 7th December, when mayhem, madness and mirth at the antics of the CADS performing their annual Christmas pantomime will have the audience rolling in the aisles! ‘Panto Goes West’ is their latest offering and tickets are available now in Catsfield Village Store, so be sure to get yours early.

Unfortunately, the first team’s football game against Herstmonceux was postponed because of the wet, but the seconds went to Hampden Park and won 7 - 0 which puts them at the top of the table. This week the firsts are away at Eastbourne against Windsor and the seconds are at home to Parkfield.

Thankfully, the vertidraining was done just in time before the latest downpours. Inspection of the Playing Field on Monday revealed that although wet, it was nowhere near as wet as in the past and the drains were running full pelt. If you are wondering why the pavilion clock is behaving eccentrically, it is radio controlled and on Monday was showing the right time. I don’t really know why, but it seems a reasonable explanation.

Catsfield CE School is delighted to receive a judgement of “Outstanding” in every category during its recent Ofsted inspection. Jacqueline White, HMI commented on the “real joy of learning” that runs throughout the school. We are very proud of the progress made over the last twenty months having moved from an Ofsted judgement of “Requires Improvement” in February 2012 to “Outstanding” in October 2013. Sally Clark, headteacher, would like to thank everyone associated with the school for their tremendous hard work and ambitious drive which has made this possible.

On Monday 11th November at 1.15pm the children will be launching 107 balloons in their house colours from the playground to celebrate! A warm welcome will be given to any villagers who would like to come along to watch this event.
