Celebrate May Day in Old Town

THE crowning of the newly-chosen May Queen and her attendants will be a highlight of Bank Holiday Monday's May Day celebrations in Old Town.

Fun for all the family is promised by Old Town Preservation Society with this free-admission event, starting at 10.30am.

This week the charity issued an open invitation to all.

"Come along and bring your picnic!"

A panel of judges will chose the little girl who will become Old Town's May Queen.

In addition to picking her attendants the panel will also chose a lucky Chimney Sweep to accompany the court at public occasions such as Old Town's Christmas festivities.

Hooe Silver Band will be providing the live music in beautiful Barrack Hall Park (approached from Belle Hill).

Bexhill Lions Club will have their traditional fairground swingboats. Bouncy castles and a roundabout will all form part of the attractions.

A maypole is now a permanent feature in Rother-owned Barrack Hall Park, which benefited from a make-over thanks to a 100,000 grant from the preservation society.
