West Sussex County Council has explained why Centenary House was evacuated this morning.

Staff and members of the public had to leave the building before 10am today (March 22) following reports of a fire.

But a county council spokesman said the fire was a false alarm.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that firefighters were not deployed to Centenary House.

Everyone is now back in the building.
