Challenging stereotypes and celebrating Older People's Day

IN CELEBRATION of Older People's Day and to challenge '˜outdated stereotypes' a charity organisation is holding a free event in Steyning.

Im pact Initiatives is hosting the event to celebrate older people at Dingemans Centre, Shooting Field in Steyning on Tuesday, October 1, between 10am and 5pm.

The day will include information on local clubs and activities, cookery classes, exercise classes, advice on keeping healthy, a Ukulele band and a presentation from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service about a campaign which aims to reduce house fire deaths in older residents.

Lunch and refreshments will be available, including a hot buffet at £5 from 12.30pm until 1.30pm.

Impact Initiatives has its own minibus to collect people from the local area (Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding).

The event aims to celebrate the achievements and contributions of older people in the community and to challenge negative attitudes and stereotypes.
