Chanel takes on walk for her nan

A WOMAN is taking on a pier to pier walking challenge to show her nan just how much she means to her.

Amberley Castle employee Chanel Goodman, 22, from Worthing is ‘excited’ to be walking from Worthing to Brighton pier and back again to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Five years ago Chanel’s nan, Jacqueline Carn, was diagnosed with cancer. After a ‘very hard and dreadful time’ for the family she was given the all-clear.

However, a couple of months ago a hospital visit showed that the cancer had come back.

“I was absolutely devastated,’ Chanel told The County Times.

“All I could think was I didn’t want her to go through all of the dramatic times we went through last time.”

The motivation behind the walk is to not only raise money for the charity but also to show her nan just how much she cares for her.

The walk from Worthing to Brighton pier and back again is around 22 miles; she hopes it will take her eight to ten hours to complete.

Chanel will not be completing the walk alone, but will be joined by her mum, auntie, some friends and some of her dad’s work colleagues.

There will also be a support team on hand made up of some of her Amberley Castle colleagues and her dad who will be driving nearby with food and drinks.

To add a little sparkle to the occasion Chanel has decided to complete the walk in fancy dress - as a pink and glittery fairy.

“Me and my nan love the colour pink and anything glittery, so I know she will love my costume,” she said.

Training has consisted of walking everywhere, and working at Amberley Castle seems to have helped, she said: “I am always walking and running around doing different things the whole time.”

So far she has raised £330 but has no target in sight as ‘every little helps’.

Chanel wanted to thank everyone who has helped and supported her from Amberley Castle, as well as her mum, dad, family and friends.

She added: “It’s going to be fantastic. I am so excited about it. I also just want to tell my nan that I love her so much and we will get through this, I know we will.”

The walk takes place on Sunday December 11 and starts at 9am.
