Huw Jones was elected onto the town council after winning the by-election for Lewes Castle ward on March 31.

However, another vacancy has arisen on the town council after Daisy Cooper (Lib Dem) stepped down from her role representing Lewes Bridge ward.

Cllr Jones (Independent) won the by-election with 476 votes, ahead of Green Party’s Joanna Carter (255), Lib Dem’s Shirley-Anne Sains (240) and Labour’s Philippa Thompson (230).

The vacancy arose after Fraser Addecott (Green Party) stepped down from his role in January 2016.

It was announced this week that a seat has now become vacant on Lewes Bridge ward following Cllr Cooper’s resignation.

A by-election will be held on the request of ten electors from the ward. A request must be made to the Chief Executive of Lewes District Council by 5pm on Friday, April 22.
