Change of plan for Rustington voters

A BURST water pipe has meant a move in ballot box for some Rustington residents on Thursday (June 4).

Residents who were due to use the WRVS Centre, in Broadmark Lane, to vote in West Sussex County Council and European elections will now need to go to 29 Churchill Parade, where an empty shop will be used as a polling station.

Ian Sumnall, Arun District Council's chief executive and local returning officer, said: "This is an unfortunate event completely beyond our control. We have worked hard to resolve the problem at the WRVS Centre but just cannot do this by the time of the election.

"I thank everyone who has worked so hard to secure this new shop premises as an alternative polling station, especially Store Property Investments Ltd who made it all possible."

Letters explaining the change have been sent to all of those affected, and notices will be placed on Rustington Parish Council's notice board, as well as the door of the WRVS Centre.

Mr Sumnall added: "Please help on the day if you can by directing people to the new station at 29 Churchill Parade. I thank the people of Rustington for their patience and understanding and encourage everyone to use their vote and make it count on Thursday."
