Changes for polling stations in Rye and Ewhurst Green

Two polling stations will be out of use for the Police and Crime Commissioner elections in May 2016, leaving Rother District Council to seek alternative venues.

At Rye, the council looks likely to approve Badgers Gate, an Amicus Horizon assisted living property with a large communal hall, as a polling station.

This will replace the Tilling Green Community Centre, as the venue is not available for the election in May.

Over at Ewhurst Green, a small polling district with 253 registered voters, the White Dog Inn will also not be available to use as a polling station this spring.

The only other option available within the polling district boundaries is the Herdman Pavilion.

Otherwise, voters would have to travel to a polling station in an adjoining district.

Rother District Council’s officers have recommended that Badgers Gate and the Herdman Pavilion are approved for use as polling stations.

A decision will be made by Rother District Council’s licensing and general purposes committee on Monday (February 1).

The meeting will take place at Bexhill Town Hall, starting at 6.30pm.

The next review of Rother’s polling stations will take place ahead of the next East Sussex County Council elections in May 2017.

April 7 2016 is the final date for candidate nominations to be submitted for the Police and Crime Commissioner elections.

The election will take place on Thursday May 5.

On ay 12, the newly or re-elected PCC will take office.

Current PCC Katy Bourne was elected to the role in 2012.
