Charged after drunken assault

A Bognor Regis man drunkenly assaulted a stranger in the street after his friend became involved in a fight.

Munen Hoque, of Sunningdale Gardens, got involved in the fight after his friend had shouted something at the victim who fell over in the street outside Ground Zero nightclub in Station Road.

The 21-year-old joined the fight at around 2.15am on April 2, kicking the victim in the body before running off. He was later arrested by police.

When they searched him they found a small piece of foil containing 1.3 grams of cannabis.

He was taken for interview and answered no comment.

He pleaded guilty to the offences at Chichester Magistrates Court where he was given a 16-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months, an 18-month supervision order and a curfew.

He was ordered to pay costs of 43, fined 100 for the possession of cannabis and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of 15.

Chairman of the magistrates John Hills said: "We can agree this was a serious assault and this custody sentence will be suspended for 18 months."
