The organisation has been assessed using a quality system endorsed by the Charity Commission and awarded the PQASSO Quality Mark at Level 2.

Sharon Westcott, office and communication manager, said the process had taken about 12 to 18 months to complete, including an assessment and final report.

“Quality marks are not just for big companies and organisations. They have their place in the voluntary sector, as VAAC has proved,” she said.

“Quality is about trying to do better – both in the services you offer and the way your organisation is run.

“Choosing PQASSO offered us a flexible approach to quality, allowing our organisation to work at its own pace, looking at what we do, identifying areas where we were doing well and not so well.”

PQASSO is a self assessment tool with 12 topics or quality areas covering the main aspects required to run an organisation well.

Sharon added: “Each quality area was supported by objective evidence that was appropriate for the way we actually work in our organisation.

“It was a team effort relying on good communication among staff, trustees and volunteers. It was well worth it.”

The charity offers organisational health checks, looking at governance, financial systems, fundraising, and policies and procedures, before making recommendations to help strengthen the organisation.

Any organisation in Arun or Chichester that would like support from the VAAC development team should contact 01243 840305 or visit www.vaac.org.uk and fill in a simple form.
