Charity football match

What started off as a friendly match between residents of the Foyer and Phoenix projects has now escalated into a competitive match between six teams: Worthing Churches Homeless Project, West Sussex Probation, Blueprint 22, Baked, Phoenix House and The Foyer.

The idea came from one of The Foyer’s residents who plays for an existing charity team called Homeless FA, which raises money to help young people get back into working life.

The match will take place from 2 ­- 5pm at Worthing Town FC.

The match is open to everyone and there will be refreshments, a raffle and the opportunity to score a penalty against the Palatine Panda (Worthing’s Town mascot.)

Co-­organiser Jorday Whyborne said: “I wanted to do this so that some of the children at the hospice can have the chance to do something that they might not have been able to do before.”

“We are fortunate that we are able to go out and do whatever we want and take things like football for granted. I hope that the money we raise can make a difference.”

Both Phoenix and The Foyer offer accommodation for young people that need support to help them live independently.

The project enables them to find and maintain a home, build their confidence and skill and helps prevent homelessness.
