Charity presented £700 from Johnston Press

A SUSSEX charity which is celebrating its golden anniversary this year has been donated over £700 by Johnston Press South, the publishers of the Herald series.

JP South sponsorship coordinator Faiza Shafeek visited the offices of SASBAH to hand over a cheque for £701.14.

SASBAH is the Sussex Association for spina bifida and hydrocepahlus, and has offices in Worthing and Gun Hill, near Horam in East Sussex.

Spina bifida occurs early in pregnancy, and is a defect in the development of the spine when one or more vertebrae fail to close properly.

The spinal cord and nerves can be damaged, resulting in total paralysis below the defect.

Hydrocephalus is an excess of cerebro-spinal fluid in the head, often, but not necessarily, present at birth.

SASBAH provides a wide range of services, including support and advice for members, a buddy scheme, a youth club, social activities, and clinic.

It also organises holidays for service users, and operates a Duke of Edinburgh centre.

Rom Sanglaji, CEO of SOSBAH, said: “We are very grateful to this newspaper for choosing SASBAH in our 50th year - a very special 12 months for the charity.

“We are relatively small but nevertheless we are one big family, and I thank JPS for the donation.

“We are very keen to raise our awareness.”
