New band
A Chichester-born teenager has become one of K-pop's newest stars with HYBE girl group TUIDE.
15-year-old Autumn Hani Yi Shaw, who was born at St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, makes her official debut as a member of TUIDE, the new seven-member K-pop girl group from South Korean global entertainment giant HYBE – the company behind K-pop superstars including BTS and SEVENTEEN.
Autumn Hani Yi Shaw, who performs under the name YI HANI (이하늬), was born in Chichester in 2011 to a British father who grew up in Emsworth and a South Korean mother. At just 15, she is the youngest member of TUIDE and one of the youngest artists ever to debut under HYBE. She now lives in South Korea.
TUIDE officially debuted in Seoul on August 24 with its first EP, Tune & Play, becoming the first girl group launched by HYBE's new label ABD – A Bold Dream.
The group brings together seven young women from different cultural backgrounds, with members from South Korea, the United States, Japan and Britain. Their music combines Korean and English influences, describing themselves as having a distinctive Soultronic sound, bringing together soul and electronic music.
TUIDE's name comes from Tune the Tide, reflecting the group's ambition to “move beyond the existing flow and create its own musical current.”
TUIDE has now begun its official promotional activities following the recent debut showcase in Seoul.
A spokesman said: “For Hani's family and her home county of West Sussex, however, the story is much closer to home. Her British-Korean background is also an important part of TUIDE's international identity, with the group deliberately bringing together different cultures, languages and musical influences.
“TUIDE's debut EP Tune & Play contains five tracks, including the lead single SUN KISS and the group's pre-debut track GRLS.
“The group is already attracting coverage from international entertainment and news media, with Yonhap News Agency and Korea Times reporting on its debut and international publications including Teen Vogue featuring the new group.
“For Hani's family, the journey from Chichester to Seoul represents an extraordinary leap from West Sussex to the heart of the global K-pop industry.”
