District Gallery based in The Hornet opened its doors last week and will hold its first exhibition on June 30.

Gallery director Kate McGeever has positioned the gallery as a stepping stone for local artists and students, many of whom are from University of Chichester.

She said: “Our primary goal was to create a space that allowed students and local artists to exhibit and sell their work.

“The art scene is notoriously hard to break into and this will give artists a real chance.”

The gallery features a multitude of pieces including paintings, drawings, and handmade crafts.

Kate added: “Chichester is already such thriving city it made sense to open the gallery here.

“It has a strong, emerging art scene and there is a lot of potential for growth within that. Local residents have all been incredibly supportive and vocal about District Gallery and because we are involving the community it is imperative that we have their support.”

The exhibition ‘diversity within art’ will be on Thursday, June 30 at 7pm and guests include the Mayor and Mayoress.
