Children at Northchapel school get set for their own ugly bug ball

Investigations have been going on throughout the age groups during Forest School sessions and in the school’s outdoor area.

Children in the reception Oak class dressed up and held an ugly bug ball as the grand finale of their learning sessions.

They prepared for the occasion by making biscuits for the ball.

This followed a visit to Haslemere Museum to find out more about tiny creatures, their homes and their colours.

The children learnt to recognise and find minibeasts and counted legs to find out whether their bugs were insects, and also built homes for bugs and worms.

Children at the Little Oaks pre-school crept, crawled and slithered through their minibeast learning sessions.

Spiders’ webs made from wool helped them understand a spider’s life cycle, as well as their sensory fine motor play.

Their favourite activity was the ‘snail’s pace’ investigation, where they each had a snail and let them go in the garden to see how far they travelled overnight.
