Children enjoy fun days in Bognor thanks to the police

A week's worth of fun is being enjoyed by scores of young children thanks to the police in Bognor Regis.

Police community support officers Jan Williams and Julia Jones have arranged the activities to ensure the ten to 15-year-olds have plenty to keep themselves amused.

The enjoyment so far has included handling birds of prey, playing football, snooker and table tennis, healthy cooking and learning street dancing.

Between 60 and 70 youngsters have gone along to the event at the 39 Youth Club each day.

Tuesday morning saw eight of them taking digital photographs around the town centre.

Declan Shipman, 13, said: "We've been taking photos of animals and buildings. I like getting a good photograph and comparing it with those which other people have taken. I feel quite proud of myself when I see my work."

Fellow photographer Rose Jackson, ten, stated: "It's really fun to take photographs. I feel really happy when I take a good photograph because it looks so nice. If I wasn't here, I would be crabbing in Littlehampton, but this is a lot better than that. It's really enjoyable."

PCSO Jones said: "The children seem to be enjoying themselves. The birds of prey were a highlight. There were three owls and a Harris hawk and the children loved them."

She and PCSO Williams were inundated with demands to attend the free week. They are staging it after the success of their inaugural event last year.
