Children spring into summer

WELCOMING the onset of summer, children from Angmering's St Wilfrid's and St Margaret's schools held their annual May Day celebrations on Wednesday.

Hosted alternately by each school, this year was St Wilfrid's turn to set up the maypole and welcome their friends from St Margaret's to their school.

The May king and queen, Charlie Dennis from St Margaret's and Rosie Varndell from St Wilfrid's rode aboard their brightly-decorated tractor down Arundel Road to St Wilfrid's accompanied by prince and princess Sam Fanning from St Wilfrid's and Holly Coomber from St Margaret's.

Once at the maypole, children from both schools performed a series of May dances in glorious sunshine.

Special guest was Lesley Baker, former head of St Margaret's, attending his 51st May day celebrations in the village.

Marianne Emery, head teacher at St Wilfrid's, said: "I think the day itself was a testament to the hard work and positive partnership between the two schools.

"From our point of view, it would not have been possible without the help and support of the parents and staff.

"We are grateful to World Flowers for supplying us with stunning flowers to decorate the tractor with and to everyone who helped make the celebration a success."
