Children support Rustington HOMElink

CHILDREN have been giving a Rustington charity its just deserts.

Three year-six pupils at Summerlea Community Primary School have been raising money for homeless charity HOMElink with a cake sale.

Jane Blackman, assistant head teacher, said Lucy Haddock, Emily Gent and Emma Tester had decided they wanted to support the organisation, and had baked and organised the event themselves.

“It was completely their own idea,” she said.

“They came to me and said that’s what they wanted to do.

“We have cake sales for different causes once every few weeks, and we really encourage it.

“It teaches the children a lot of life skills.”

She added that the school had donated its harvest festival collection to HOMElink, and that the pupils had obviously taken the cause to their hearts.

“The more help HOMElink can get, especially at the moment, the better,” she said.

Rosemary Orpin, fund-raiser for the charity, said she had been “touched” by the girls’ efforts, which raised about £35.

“They are really interested in the work we do, they really are brilliant,” she said.

“The girls are so observant of life, and we could see that they really wanted to help.”
