Children's dance skills earn them high praise

Cool children at a Bognor Regis school were less nervous than their teachers as they prepared to wow an audience with their dancing skills.

The 14 pupils aged nine to 11 from Michael Ayres Junior School attracted huge applause at the county Dancetime festival.

Held at the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing, as well as Crawley, this gave more than 1,700 pupils the chance to show off their dance talents.

The Michael Ayres pupils grabbed the chance with a routine they choreographed with support from two of their teachers '“ Damon Gravatt and Alex Blackman.

The piece, called Rivals, told the story of two groups in a playground dispute. One group had basketballs and performed a breath- taking display of throws, dribbles and catches timed to the music.

Their rivals undertook an impressive display of street dance including break dance, popping and gymnastic manoeuvres.

The school opened the second half of the show and earned praise from the theatre staff and the event's organisers.
