Chocolate Factory is sweet success

Presented in a promenade style, the audience followed the cast scene by scene to various locations around the site.

An eccentric and exciting atmosphere was created from the opening as the audience were greeted with sweets and spontaneous bursts of song as the narrators entered form various corridors and stairways. The hour long play was performed six times during the evening with clever casting, including eight Willy Wonkas and two sets of main characters, enabling every student to have a speaking role. Audiences were surprised and entertained by roller-skating, uni-cycling and skateboarding performers.

The Wurlitzer organ was played superbly by year nine student Thomas Pickering, film projections and giant squirrels glimpsed through a window were examples of the surreal spectacles in this piece.

The appreciative audience enthused about the experience commenting on the totally engaging performances given by the students.

Head of Drama, Sarah Wall, who directed the production, said: “I would like to thank the enthusiastic and talented cast; year eleven student David Swarbrick for his amazing work performing and providing technical support and colleagues Gina Potter, Liz Daines and Rhiannon Chillingworth.
