CHURCH CENTRE FOR SALE

THE Trustees of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton have instructed Oakley Commercial to sell the Canon O'Donnell Centre in Western Road, Lewes.

The disposal of the parish hall forms part of a larger plan that St Pancras RC Church has to construct a new annexe community facility in Irelands Lane.

Parish priest, Father Richard Biggerstaff, said:

'In recent years the parish hall has become more of a maintenance liability on the church and, bearing in mind it is some distance from St Pancras, it is extremely under-utilised.

'Constructing a new annexe in the grounds of the existing church will greatly increase the scope of facilities we can offer to our parishioners and the wider community.'

The parish hall was until recently used by local scout and exercise groups, some of whom may be able to take advantage of the facilities on offer at St Pancras School in De Montfort Road.

The property is to be sold by informal tender. Oakley Commercial is seeking best and final offers by February 16.

Chris Oakley, of Oakley, said: 'The former parish hall building does occupy a very high profile location upon one of the principal routes into the town.

'I am sure the marketing will generate a significant level of enquiries, bearing in mind that the property offers a range of opportunities for alternative uses or comprehensive development.'
