Churches' novel way to support library

LEADERS of the Arundel churches have come up with a novel way of supporting their local library '” buying new books and DVDs.

A total of 37 books and eight DVDs were presented to chief librarian Gareth Edmunds by the leaders of the three Arundel churches Fr Keith Richards, Deacon David Clifton and Les Voke.

The collection will boost the library's selection in biography, social affairs and religion and help ensure that important and classic books and DVDs with a Christian background were easily available.

The presentation was part of a national scheme called Speaking Volumes, founded in 1968 by the Christian Book Promotion Trust, which recommends a set of mainstream religious books chosen by a national panel of literary experts from all the major denominations.

Money for the gift was raised from the three Arundel congregations.

A spokesman said: "It is vital that adults and children can read our most important social ideals, adventurous real life stories and inspiring faith and find encouragement for modern-day situations and difficulties."

Among the titles presented were: Tough Talk, If I Were God I'd End All The Pain; Taming The Tiger; Run Baby Run; Shannon and Peter Goes Feet First.
