Church's festival shows off some fine floristry

SLINDON'S first flower festival at St Mary's Church finished with a grand result '” raising £1,000.

From Friday, July 20, to Sunday, the church was decorated with colourful blooms laid out by 10 volunteers and with one display by the children of Slindon School.

Visitors flocked to the church to see the stunning displays and enjoy refreshments.

On Sunday evening, the Dean of Chichester Nicholas Frayling led a special festival evensong.

Festival organiser Deneen Olby said: "This was the first time that we have had a flower festival at the church and we were very happy with how it went.

"Everyone worked very hard together to make it a success and I thank them for that.

"Thanks must also go to our corporate sponsors who paid for the flowers.

"We were delighted to have raised 1,000 for the church, money which will go towards its maintenance."
