Classic Car and Bike show in Burpham

GOODWOOD Festival of Speed may have some serious competition in the near future if the second Classic Car and Bike show in Burpham is anything to go by.

The event was organised by the Burpham Motor Racing Club (BMRC) and was supported by an astounding array of motoring heroes and famous movie cars.

More than 1,000 people turned up for their chance to get up close and personal with a DeLorean, just like the Back to the Future car, and the original Batmobile, along with 11 other cars that made it to the big screen.

BMRC chairman, Dominic Santana, of The Street, Burpham, said: “It was an absolutely astounding event.

“Everybody was so supportive and had a really good time helping us support five different charities on the day.”

The event helped to raise roughly £500 for the Henry Surtees Foundation and the Eddie Kidd Foundation for the treatment and rehabilitation of stunt performers.

Eddie, a former stunt motorcyclist, was on-hand to sign autographs at the show.

He suffered brain damage in a stunt 15 years ago, leaving him paralysed, but earlier this year completed the London Marathon, in 43 days.

Money was also raised for the Royal British Legion and the Dream Rides charity.

Dominic added: “A lot of people really got behind us and I am so grateful to them.

“We will never be as large as Goodwood and that’s not the point.
