'Clear the air' forum for Bognor fans

Rocks fans have been urged to attend a 'clear the air' forum next week in Bognor Regis. The football club's new commercial manager, Edward Mills, has arranged the important session for Wednesday.

It will start at 8pm at the Opengate Church, formerly Bognor Regis Baptist Church, in Victoria Drive.

Mr Mills will be joined by manager Mick Jenkins along with club secretary Simon Cook, committee member Mike Phillips and press officer Roger Nash.

"This is the chance to get everything out in the open," said Mr Mills. "We need to sit down with the fans and they can put some points across to us. We will answer as many questions as we can on the night. Those we can't, we will put to the board on the fans' behalf. It's their club after all.

"We are at the bottom of the Conference South table and we can only go forward from here this season. We can't go back.

"And, if we're not going to go forward, we might as well pack up. The club has a nice ground with a beautiful pitch, and the groundsman keeps it well, but the club has fallen behind the times."

Mr Mills vowed to work hard to bring in crucial funds needed to help the Nyewood Lane club compete in the higher levels of non-league football. He has been meeting potential backers in the past two weeks.

"We desperately need money," he stated. "We aren't getting enough people through the gate for matches."

Bournemouth man Mr Mills (57) had spent just under a year working in the commercial department at fellow Conference South side Dorchester Town. He has also worked on the ground staff at Oldham Athletic during his 20 years in football.

Next Wednesday's forum will also have a fun side with a penalty shoot out for prizes. Food will be provided and fans can bring their own drinks.
