Cleared for take off
A MAJOR expansion of Lydd Airport looks certain to go ahead after two High Court appeals failed.
A judge dismissed claims from the RSPB and Lydd Airport Action Group that the expansion would increase the risk of an aircraft crashing into Dungeness nuclear power station and harm birdlife on the sensitive Romney Marsh.
A Government Inspector had already ruled in favour of the airport’s plans before the High Court bid to block them.

Hide AdIt means larger planes, such as the Boeing 737 pictured here, will be able to operate from Lydd making it an attractive proposition for medium-haul flights to European holiday destinations.
Plans include a runway extension and a new passenger terminal at the airport a few miles outside Rye.
The expanded airport will be able to handle up to half a million passengers a year.
