Club's parting charity gift

WHAT could have been a sad occasion shone a ray of light into the lives of less fortunate people.

When the Hellingly Hospital Staff Sports and Social Club finally closed its doors members opted to distribute the club's remaining funds to local charities.

Former chairman Steven Carter presented cheques to local representatives of the Eastbourne Family Contact Centre, Hazel Court School, St Wilfrid's Hospice, Kit Wilson Trust, National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy (NCYPE), Hailsham branch of the Parkinson's Disease Society, JKP Project, Hailsham Caring for Carers Group and the Children's Chronic Arthritis Association.

The club closed its doors after a major fire destroyed its Hellingly Hospital premises in 2003.

Steven Carter said: 'We are grateful to the committee and members of the Hailsham Club for allowing us to use their premises for this occasion.'
