Coffee morning for World Down Syndrome Day

Jessica Archer, membership secretary for Chichester Down Syndrome Support Group, will be joined by husband Danny, sister Charlotte Craft and two friends for the fundraising event on Sunday.

But to get the ball rolling, the family are supporting Chichester Down Syndrome Support Group’s Lots of Socks coffee morning tomorrow at Fishbourne Church Hall from 10am to midday.

Jessica said: “We are celebrating World Down Syndrome Day and raising vital funds for our children, young people and families.”

Entry is £4 for adults, to include a hot drink and cake, children £2.50 for a soft drink and cake. All money raised will go to Chichester Down Syndrome Support Group.

Then on Sunday morning, Team Archer will abseil more than 300ft town the iconic tower, which will be lit blue and yellow on Monday to mark World Down Syndrome Day.

Jessica said: “We are somehow going to conquer our fear and hopefully get over the jelly legs and abseil 94 metres down the Spinnaker Tower. Ok, well Danny is apparently cool about it, but we’ll see.

“We are raising awareness for World Down Syndrome Day and hoping to raise as much as we can for Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association (PDSA), a fantastic charity that has been there for us and our son.

“Harry began speech therapy at PDSA early development groups at the age of one and has continued with this exceptional, unique service.

“He is currently attending their communication groups, where he and his two friends in the group work on their talking, word and number recognition.”

She said the association had helped to guide the family to understand how to help Harry’s development and given them tasks to do with him.

There is also an outreach service, which visits Harry’s school, Parklands Community Primary School, in Chichester, once a term to ensure everything is on track and offer support and advice.
