Collective of Sussex artists returns to Seaford
Form, Frame, Fire
A collective of Sussex artists will return to Seaford this May with a new edition of Form, Frame, Fire, a collaborative exhibition bringing together ceramics, glass, jewellery, painting and photography.
Taking place from May 20–31 at the Crypt Gallery, the exhibition marks the second year the artists have exhibited together at the venue following a successful debut in 2025. Four returning artists — Jan Beesley, Chris Schneider, Jayne Luscombe and Charlie Todman — will present new work, joined this year by guest glass artist Julie Knight.
Jayne said: “The exhibition takes place at the Crypt Gallery, home to Sussex Contemporary Illustrators & Printmakers (SCIP), a community-focused arts organisation supporting accessible creative opportunities across the region. The medieval undercroft and adjoining contemporary gallery provide a distinctive setting for the show.
“Working across five different mediums, the artists share an interest in material processes and landscape-inspired making. Their practices range from experimental photography and abstract landscape painting to enamelled jewellery and alternative-fired ceramics.”
New guest artist Julie Knight introduces glass to the exhibition’s material mix, working in the copper-foil technique pioneered by Louis Comfort Tiffany to create expressive nature-inspired pieces.
Julie said: “I use glass like an artist would use paint. It is a joy to have found this medium — the possibilities are endless. Anything is possible… probably.”
A Meet the Artist Day with refreshments will take place on Saturday, May 23, offering visitors the opportunity to talk with the artists about their processes and inspiration.
Form, Frame, Fire is at the Crypt Gallery, 23 Church Street, Seaford, East Sussex, BN25 1HD, May 20-31, open daily 10am-5pm. Free entry.
