College's board of governors quite en masse

THE entire governing body of Boundstone Community College in Lancing has resigned over a financial dispute with the county council.

Sixteen members quit after the council refused to withdraw a notice that accused governors of mishandling the school's budget.

The notice had been deferred but members were furious that the council refused to withdraw it completely.

John Bowd, the former chairman of governors, said: "I have been involved with the school personally for 24 years, and other people for many years, and one of the saddest things I have had to do is to finally say goodbye. I didn't expect my governorial service to end like this."

A letter was sent to the school in October 13 giving notice that the school's powers to control its own finances would be removed from November.

It was this notice, from county treasurer Bryan Robinson, which governors were unhappy about.
