Come to Battle for Mediaeval merrymaking

Organised by the Battle and District Chamber of Commerce, the free event will take place in the town centre on Sunday and Monday.

The fayre organisers will welcome back Devil Sticks Peat, who will be juggling and jesting throughout the two days of the fayre.

Peat has been in many different countries, including many war torn areas, entertaining the crowds with his hilarious and joyful act.

There will be a group of minstrels to add a touch of mediaeval musical magic, the Battel Bonfire Boyes will be there with a mouth-watering hog roast and there will be many craft stalls and games to enjoy.

Children can try their hand at pottery, making their own jubilee mask or join in the scarecrow workshop.

On the Monday the May Queen and all the young dancers from Battle and Langton School will be escorted in the parade down the High Street by the Section 5 Drummers.

For the first time the May Queen will travel in a floral carnival carriage, pulled by Battle’s very own Fighting Knights.

And the mystery of who the damsel in distress will chose from the Fighting Knights remains to be solved.

Their tale will unfold in dramatic style and will require plenty of boos and cheers from the audience.

Monday: 10.30am Merry Maypolers, 11.30am Hands on History, noon Minstrels, 12.30pm Fighting Knights, 1pm Parade down the High Street, 1.30pm Crowning of May Queen and children’s maypole dancing, 2.30pm Hands on History, 3pm Minstrels, 3.30pm Fighting Knights, 4.30pm Merry Maypolers.
