Commissioner talks to village

THE new Police and Crime Commissioner for Sussex, Katy Bourne, visited Ninfield last week and gave local people an insight into her role and what it means to local communities.

Speaking at Ninfield’s Parish Council meeting, Ms Bourne told residents how she came to be the first ever Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, the measures she has put in place since taking up the role last November, and details of future policing plans for the county.

Katy said she was “delighted” to attend the meeting and is always grateful to be able to meet local communities and to get a better understanding of their priorities, adding: “Amongst other things, road safety was an issue we discussed and this is something I will be following up on with local councillors.

“I was also asked many questions about my role as PCC as well looking at the future of policing as a whole and discussing initiatives such as early intervention and reducing repeat offending.”

Following her presentation Ms Bourne answered questions and spent time talking to local residents. Ms Bourne said she was also pleased to receive an email from a local resident thanking officers from Sussex Police who had recently helped her following a burglary at her home. She said: “It is always good to hear the positive stories from local communities and this is something I will be passing on to the chief constable when we next meet.”

Rother District councillor Pam Doodes, who organised the event, said she was pleased it had gone so well, adding: “Katy Bourne was very open and honest, her responses instilled confidence.”
