Community scheme may help reduce energy prices

Amidst the anticipated hike in energy bills this winter, MP Greg Barker says he is ‘committed’ to keeping bills down whilst Bexhill Labour Party is backing a community scheme that promises to reduce costs.

EDF is the latest of the ‘big six’ energy suppliers to announce that it will increase energy prices by an average 3.9 per cent on dual fuel tariffs from January 2014. Customers not on a fixed tariff can expect bills to rise by an average £49 a year.

A high percentage of elderly people live in Mr Barker’s Bexhill constituency trying to survive on a state pension. Many will struggle to stay warm as the temperature plummets and pay energy bills that are set to increase above the rate of inflation.
