Controversy over bridge replacement

West Sussex landowner is disputing the planned design for a replacement bridge across the River Arun at South Stoke, near Arundel.

The bridge has been the subject of a long-standing dispute between local landowners and the Environment Agency for 13 years and has been closed to both vehicles and pedestrians since June 2005, causing considerable hardship for both farmers and walkers.

Landowner William Knight says the planned replacement bridge would be more suitable for a motorway than a small crossing in South Stoke.
