Council savings of £1million

ADUR and Worthing councils have announced a saving of nearly £1million from their partnership.

The councils say combining their workforce will have saved them nearly 1million by the end of April 2010, even after paying the costs of the change to a combined workforce.

This could benefit Adur residents by keeping the council tax increases below five per cent.

Adur Council leader Neil Parkin said: "If it wasn't for the partnership savings, we would be looking at cutting valued frontline services on top of setting the council tax at the maximum government will allow.

"I hope this will silence the critics of this innovative way of working as many other councils are now following the Adur and Worthing lead."
