Council ‘unable to say’ cost of Storrington medical centre

Hosrham District Council has said it cannot disclose the amount it paid for the controversial Mill Stream Medical Centre, or its future plans, as the purchase is still subject to contract.

Last month, HDC told the County Times that it had purchased the closed medical centre in Storrington from former practise partner Dr Joanna Bailey.

County Times readers left comments asking how much the surgery cost and what funds the council was using to pay for it.

A representative from HDC said: “The cost of acquiring the surgery in North Street cannot be disclosed at this stage as the purchase is still subject to contract.

“However the offer that was made by the council and accepted by the vendor had been approved by the District Valuer.

“As far as plans for a new medical centre are concerned, we are at an early stage in our discussions with NHS England and the doctors at the Glebe Surgery.

“All parties are committed to trying to find a positive solution but it is too soon to forecast the results of the exercise.

“We will keep the local community informed as the discussions progress.”

Previously HDC said that it has been talking with the NHS England and doctors from the nearby Glebe Surgery about the possibility of developing a medical health centre which would provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities for the people of the area.
